Alexander wants to be in the talent show so his friends Anna Anaconda and Albert Alligator help him develop a balancing act. Bobby Baboon is carrying bananas to school for a treat and gets help counting and eating them from Bubba Bear, Barnaby Badger, and Buster Buffalo, after a little bullying. Corky Cub and his friend Connie Cougar always wear matching caps. He is sad when she moves away, but his teacher and parents help him make new friends and new caps. Dilly Dog's dangerous dancing drives everyone away, and on it goes. Each book has lots of alliteration and silliness. Some of the writing is a little forced to incorporate the correct letter. Also, the books are unlikely to develop a following among children because the characters do not continue from book to book. Each one concludes with facts about the featured animal and related activities. Will be your FAVORITE books in your children's library!!!

My 5 and 8 year old absolutely LOVE these books. Better yet, I LOVE these books!

The books are so FUN! The kids and I just smile reading them! They are creatively writen and one can tell much time and effort has been put into writing these books. It is beautifully illustrated.

My pre-reader loves looking at them and he doesn't enjoy doing that with many books other than sports! I hope to obtain the entire series to keep for years to come to share with my grandkids someday. I'm thinking them of my new "GOLDEN" books that we had as kids!

a good introduction to the inverse scattering method

The short text by Drazin and Johnson on Solitons discusses a method called the "inverse scattering transform", developed predominately in the 1950s and 1960s, to solve certainly "slightly" nonlinear, dispersive equations such as the Korteweg de Vries equation (KdV). Although the book is short, it adequately presents the method, through informal discussion and examples, such as applying it to the KdV, so that the method can be understood as a practical computational approach. In fact, there are many explicit computational examples in the text to illustrate the method, both in simple applications to the KdV and in more general cases, such as matrix equations.

The inverse scattering method is, in itself, rather beautiful, and transforms the nonlinear equation under consideration into exact linear integral equations, whose formal solutions can be discussed in terms of spectral decompositions. I liken the approach to solving the quadratic equation by "completing the square".

The authors also place the method in context of broader studies of nonlinear equations. For example, a brief presentation indicating the physical significance of the KdV is provided that shows that this equation is expected to have some fairly general applicability, and that solitons can be expected as somewhat general features to observe in nature. Other discussions consider the mathematics of solitons in more abstract settings, and there is a short discussion of numerical methods and results at the end of the book.

Many problems are provided at the end of each chapter. The problems take one through the previous chapter and force re-examination, more careful consideration and overall review, point by point sequentially of what was discussed in the chapter. Some of the problems are also intended to supplement the text, and give consideration to points that were of interest but could not be covered in the main text.

I personally found that I did not have adequate time to cover all of the material in the text. I feel, however, that the care and clarity with which the inverse scattering transform was presented did allow me to gain an appreciation of the method. I also had time to work only a small fraction of the problems.

For a short, "informal", presentation, I found the overall presentation to be very clear. This is, despite the shortness, and summary nature of some of the text, a deep book, requiring very dedicated effort to master (more effort than I could expend). I do consider it to be a very nice introduction to the study of solitons, and it has motivated me to further study. With the vast improvements we have seen in computation over the past fifty years, solitions have become an important area of applied mathematics.

I recommend this book as a good introduction to solitons, and a very good discussion of the inverse transform method. The mathematical pre-requisites are kept pretty minimal by the focus on "informal" mathematics. However, this, the clarity of presentation, and the shortness of the book should not deceive the reader: the book is very deep and to fully appreciate requires considerable dedication.

About the Author
The Beauty of Horror's creator/artist Alan Robert is a passionate visual storyteller. He studied cartooning under legendary artist Walter Simonson (The Mighty Thor) while earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at The School of Visual Arts in New York. IDW Publishing has published several of Robert's critically acclaimed graphic novels, including Crawl to Me, Killogy, Wire Hangers and the forthcoming angel epic The Shunned One. Robert is also an accomplished musician and lyricist. His band Life of Agony has built an international cult following and has shared stages with the biggest names in rock for more than two decades. LOA has sold over one million records to date and will release their 5th studio album A Place Where There's No More Pain in 2017.

Beautiful and Creepy

I preordered this coloring book at the beginning of September and just received my copy yesterday. I absolutely love it! The pictures are creepy and very pretty (pretty for the type of content at least). A lot of the pictures are very detailed, but as long as you have either use pens or keep your colored pencils nice and sharp, it shouldn't be a problem. The quality of the paper is very nice and thick and easy to draw/color on. I highly recommend this coloring book to anyone looking for a creepy coloring book for Halloween or if you're just into that kind of thing.

The Beauty of Horror, the best coloring book for Halloween and true horror fans.

I LOVE this book!!! I have over 75 coloring books and I can honestly say that this is my favorite coloring book, it makes it very hard to do my day to day activities because I just want to color in this book. The pictures have such amazing details and thought put into them. I was not disappointed in a single picture, most of my coloring books have several pictures that I will never color but there isn't a single picture in this book that I don't want to color!!! I highly recommend this book, especially for horror fans. A lot of Halloween coloring books are more pumpkins, black cats etc and they lack the detail this book has. This book has the detail, the gore and the kind of pictures a real horror fan can sink their teeth into. Buy this book!!!!

AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!

This book is AMAZING! The artist obviously loves what he does. Whether you are into horror or not, anyone can appreciate the beauty of the work and how much effort was put into this book. So much to color for an amazing price. I don't know where to begin!
