Harmonia Saille is an English writer and researcher with a BA (Hons) degree in Imaginative Writing and Literature and further post grad study in writing and literature. A practising Hedge Witch, she has been a lecturer in Modern Pagan Witchcraft at a UK university and holds workshops on faeries, runes and other subjects both locally and at international spiritual events. Harmonia's articles have appeared in various spiritual magazines and she is features editor of the Irish Pagan magazine Brigid's Fire. She is a mother and grandmother and lives in Ireland. She is the author of The Spiritual Runes, A Guide to Ancestral Wisdom and Walking the Faery Pathway.

small in size, HUGE in information!

In "Hedge Riding," author Harmonia Saille combines how-to instructions with personal experiences to create a one-of-a-kind guide for even the beginning hedge rider. Not only does she give you the "dos" and "don'ts" of hedge riding, but she also gives advice on meditation, visualization and path working; all pre-cursors to hedge riding. This book was very well-thought out and put together. There is so much knowledge and information contained within the pages of this book. While the book is only 59 pages in length, don't be fooled by the size. There is no information lacking, and it's almost as if the author is right there to guide you. I look forward to reading more from her.

An exciting intro into the world of spirit-flight

This slim volume serve as a great introduction to the history and methods of hedge riding, a form of spirit travel within the witchcraft folks traditions. Riding the hedge is often confused with astral travel and pathworking, but Saille puts the confusion to rest. Using clear examples and sharing from a deep well of personal experiences, Saille brings back this mysterious practice, making it relevant for modern Witches today.

I appreciated this book very much. It has given me a basic understanding of the different aspects of men's fashion. I recommend it to anyone who has little or no knowledge of the subject as a great way to break the ice. I feel confident that I will be able to ask better questions and do more specific research in the areas that I am interested in.

Good guide to timeless style, with one or two howlers

'Gentleman' is a good overview for any man wishing to emulate the components of a (British) gentleman's style. His suits, shirts, trousers, jackets, leisure gear, grooming products and where to buy them. There is even a section on the ideal gentleman's breakfast. Generally the information is accessible and well presented, with detailed colour photography throughout. The author's knowledge is clearly haphazard however. There are some hillarious mistakes on several pages. For example he advises that gentleman golfers playing in bad weather should wear a Barbour jacket - come on!

About the Author
Mark Woodhouse, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Georgia State University. He teaches courses in the history of philosophy, metaphysics, consciousness studies, Eastern thought, parapsychology, and the New Paradigm literature on levels ranging from freshman to doctoral. He has authored over thirty articles in mainstream professional and leading edge journals, and is the recipient of two post-doctoral fellowships for advanced study at Brown University and UC-Berkeley.

More than meets the eye

While I agree with the other reviewer of this book in that is definately over-priced, this book is still very useful. Starting out I did NOT like this book as it was the very first book I had so far as a general introductory work in a college class ( prior to that I had Geisler's book the other reviewer mentions, it is more bang for the buck). However after taking my philosophy course I found myself going back to the book because of the nuances covered in it. I think his comments about the pitfalls beginners deeply affected by a postmodernist high school education might make was timely, and his distinctions between what are philosophical and empirical problems is helpful as well. It isn't just an intro to philosophy that goes over the various branches systematically explaining what they are and their scope of investigation but rather maybe a very broad survey of philosophy itself and the way it's careful distinctions are broadly applicable. He also has a short section on writing philosophical essays and review exercises that allow one to drill what they've been reading. While not very comprehensive, I think it's still a good read you might refer to again and again.

Too Small, Too Superficial, and Too Expensive

I was forced to buy this book to serve as a textbook for a college philosophy class. We covered Woodhouse's small booklet (barely over 100 pages of actual text) in a week. While I understand that the book is to be a preface to philosophy, I found myself covering terms and definitions that I had learned in my middle-school logic class. You definitely do not get your money out of this one. If you have a choice at buying this, consider Introduction to Philosophy by Norman Geisler and Paul Feinberg instead. Longer, more informative, and cheaper.

Warhol, who died in 1987, can be viewed as a relentless observer, who dwelled obsessively upon images representative of our century: the electric chair, a jet crash, the Soviet hammer and sickle, screen idols, politicians, symbolic volcanoes. A retrospective now at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which this lengthy tome catalogues, reveals that some of Warhol's most suggestive works are among his least well-known, to wit, his space-age Moonwalk (1987), a Rorschach-like series of paintings, and the enormous, Asiatic-looking Oxidation Paintings done in metallic pigments. Packed with 325 color plates and 332 in black and white, this six-pounder includes four academic, hyperbolic essays, 33 pages of first-hand impressions of Warhol by cultural celebs, and 10 pages of his instant wit and wisdom.

This is an awesome book for Andy Warhol fans and collectors! I bought this used, and the quality was good. A little musty smelling, but I figure that's from the age of the book. Fast shipping, which was perfect for the Christmas holidays! Bought this for my 16 yr old son, who is a big fan of pop art and Andy Warhol. :)

I was happy when he was dead

First of all, the lack of information Americans are given about world history is damn-near criminal and it frustrates me when I read books like this or "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" or see the Argentinian film "The Official Story" and realize all the horrible stuff that goes on around the world without it even appearing on the pages of American newspapers or taught to kids in school.

It goes without saying that Stalin is a loathed historical figure who is most often brought up when people are trying to decide who was the cruelest dictator who ever lived. What is not said, at least by anyone I've ever heard talk about, is the extent and viciousness of this man's actions on his own people as well as those who were in his inner circle. I think we in the US focus more on Hitler because his reign was so brief and his targets for extermination were so well-defined whereas a single film or even mini-series about Stalin would barely even scratch the surface of all the pogroms, arrests, food shortages and all-out wars against those in and around Russia this man carried out. There comes a point when reading this book that the torture, murder and starvation of so many hundreds of thousands of people is almost too much to be believed and certainly too much to be digested as you read it. It's almost like reading a comic book where you know that it's impossible to turn green and morph into a giant musclebound superhero but there you see it drawn on the page. This is how massive Stalin's eradication of his populace could be. To say "Go to the Ukraine and kill all the Jews" is horrible and clearly based antisemitism that had been bubbling at the surface for thousands of years leading up to that point in the early 20th century; the case here with Stalin and his cronies was that they would just send a number of people to be arrested, killed and deported and the different regions could take in anyone they liked as long as they filled their quota. It was entirely nonsensical and it is difficult to absorb as a historical fact. In addition to this, Stalin is still revered in many places around Russia as well as individuals despite having committed such atrocities.

The book left with me with the gnawing question of whether Stalin was a genocidal monster because he was born that way or because the system that surrounded him would have demanded it of anyone that had been in his place. It's impossible to go back in time and make Molotov, Trotsky or Zinoviev in the place of Secretary General and see how that would have played out so I suppose we will never know. I do worry that given a sufficient national crisis in the US that we would give someone powers like those Stalin had and that that person would then carry out a war on his own people like the one that went on for decades under his rule. That's the kind of thing to keep you up at night and makes you willing to listen to politicians like Ron Paul whose only interest is keeping the government out of any facet of your daily life. This is jarring to me because I'm a lifelong liberal democrat that has always felt that a little more government intervention in our lives might be to everyone's benefit. I suppose that it all has to do with the emotions and economic situation of the people that are governed as well as the goodwill of leaders to not always take the bait and stoke our greatest fears in order to gain power over their communities.

I hope that eventually this book or books like it make their way into the American history curriculum if only to give us a taste of what can happen when the leadership and patriotism are no longer questioned and we give over our decision-making to a small coterie of sheltered bureaucrats.

Fascinating life of a monster

The excuses that all the excesses and mass murders of Stalin's era were caused by his henchmen are exposed. Not only Stalin knew about it, he personally initiated them and pursued them relentlessly. The Russians won WWII not so much because of him but despite his blunders and the severe purges he conducted in his army. He finally let his generals manage but then he was jealous of their successes. The book painstakingly revealed in minute details the crooked personality of this egomaniac, and how he destroyed practically everyone near him. How absolute power corrupts absolutely. No one was safe. This book suffers of focusing too much on the persons and not enough on events, as many books by this author. A lesson in history: it has happened and can happen again.

THE REAL WORLD MONSTER

This book will rip the scales off the eyes off anyone who still naively believes communism/socialism will create a better world for everyone. The extent of Stalin's cruelty is difficult to imagine today. Sadly we have learned little. Russia even now is in the grip of another budding monster.Simon Montefiore takes the reader step by step down the path of well-intentioned revolutionary communists whose measures to ensure obedience to Lenin's Master Plan become more bizarre and inhuman as their exasperation to achieve the impossible implodes. Their madness and the mass starvation created by their ill-fated ideology is chilling. Russia is on its inexorable slide back to this madness. Montefiore's book should be compulsory reading for young idealists searching for a way to overcome the world's problems of inequality. They will learn there are sound reasons to trust democracy and free markets.

Truly amazing story - I personally find it very believable

To preface this comment: Why would someone destroy their house and take pictures - to use and save 25 years later? Also bringing in a parade of well respected researchers and not use their accounts for decades? I've seen many incredulous comments on this story. That it has to be a hoax. Understandable thinking upon first blush. To hear of an entity so powerful as to carry on consistent conversations via writing, as well as constantly apport objects is mind-blowing. I certainly doubted the story upon reading the description of the first book "A Deadly Haunting". The book was totally believable, however it's fictional-style story telling was off putting. Reading this second book just cemented my belief Deborah is telling the truth. The first hand accounts told matter-of-factly and combined with time stamped photos makes this believable indeed. This book was riveting. I highly recommend listening to some of Deborah's interviews and podcasts as well. It adds definite dimension (in conjunction with the books and pictures) hearing her describe the events. I can't get enough of this story. It's astounding.

Also,did anybody work? It didn't seem so.
I believe these things happen but when basic facts such as these are not addressed the story begins to strain credulity.
