Good for and additional references but not as an introduction

It is a good (classic) physiology textbook. I am an animal physiologist that wanted this to add to my collection. I wouldn't suggest it to someone new to the subject. If you are looking for an animal physiology book to introduce you to the most up-to-date topic I would chose Hill et al. Animal Physiology (as of this review they recently released the 4th edition).

A Great Physiology Text

This is one of, if not the, best comparative physiology text available. Don't let the 1992 publication date detour one from checking out this comprehensive text covering physiology across a wide range of animal classes. This text was a recommended text for an advanced physiology course in graduate school and I must say it is well worth the purchase. The best feature about this book is the wealth of information Withers has managed to fit into this text. The chapters are organized and read similar to primary review articles and utilize actual data from primary research journals to demonstrate key concepts in physiology. This however may also be a drawback to this text as well since many undergraduates are not familiar with information presented in this way and may find this text a bit challenging at first. That being said, this text does not read like an introductory text of physiology, but is well suited for upper level or graduate level courses in physiology. Provided one has some introductory background in physiology, this text should expand and enhance one's knowledge base of physiology quite well.

There are two principal themes here: the performance of the army in Israel's wars and the relationship between the military and the government. Schiff is unsparing in his account of the bitter controversy over the politicization of the army, starting with the so-called War of the Generals, in which the role of Ariel Sharon is brought into clear focus. The author also writes frankly about the rift caused in Israeli society by "Operation Peace for Galilee" in 1982 and the loss of the army's prestige that resulted from that invasion. Photos. Very readable overview

This book is a short but very readable overview of not only the history of the IDF but also the history of modern Israel. Since the birth and development of the modern country of Israel is closely related to the military, by reading this book you get a good handle on the main aspects of how the country evolved from the kibbutzim and Aliyahs to the Yom Kippur War. Good book. I liked the earlier edition that had lots of pictures, maps and graphs but this newer edition has all the written information.

As a man, I learned.

I bought this book because I love to hear the stories of others. The problem with this book was that it had no stories, Rupi encapsulates you in an experience. I bought this to read to my significant other, I thought it may be just another pleasantry to share, but as I read it to her, I got so lost in the experience that I forgot that there was a person next to me. Feeling like it was an out-of-body type experience, I learned, and at the end of the day, I'll be a better father, son, brother, and lover because of it. So I thank the artist. Truly a pleasure.

The style reminds me of a grownup Shel Silverstein book, had Shel covered abuse, love, and loss. Some of the poems hit harder than others, but overall it's worth a read. The book can be read cover to cover in a sitting, so commitment is minimal.

Fantastically moving book of poems!

I stumbled upon this book when I was looking for some summer reading materials. The book is divided into four sections: the hurting, the loving, the breaking and the healing. It's a fantastically moving book of poems - each passage will evoke some type of feeling from the reader whether it is anger, sadness, regret, hope, love or happiness. For anyone who has experienced any relationship highs and/or lows, the book is very cathartic. I would recommend the reader take a day or two after finishing the book to process all the feelings. My favorite sections are the loving and the healing which captures the exhilarating feeling of early romantic relationships while also celebrating the different types of love and finally, highlighting the importance of self love.
